Just visible above the evergreen brush on the right hand side of the photo is the top of Nevada Falls, the next obstacle to be surmounted. At this point it is still about 2 miles away, and 1000' above our rest stop at the top of Vernal Falls. From this point we decided to depart the Mist Trail which we are told becomes even more difficult, and travel the longer but easier John Muir Trail. Given the weight of our packs and the stories of the harrowing trail ahead it seems like the smart thing to do.
