If we had thought the previous view was intimidating, it turned out to be nothing compared to this. From here on the trail becomes too steep to maintain traction on the rocks, so the park service puts up these cables to help you make the final climb to the top. At least the trail from the lookout point to here on the "shoulders" of Half Dome was a good warm up. After succesfully climbing the narrow granite stairs just piled on the raw rock face of the dome, and climbing portions at about 30 degree slope with no steps or anything to hold on to, anything seems possible. None the less, it does require a little time to sit here and collect ones self before setting out up those cables. (and yes, the little black dots half way up and near the top are people)
